Potty Training Resources for San Gabriel and Pasadena Pet Owners

Potty Training Resources for San Gabriel Valley and Pasadena Pet Owners

Now that you’ve gotten past all the preliminary steps to bringing your pet home, you have arguably the most difficult and rewarding task at hand – potty training.  You may experience a great deal of frustration at the beginning, but when your pet begins to understand the concept and goes where he/she is supposed to, it’s a great feeling.  I’ve included 2 links for potty training your puppy and/or kitten.

Generally, dogs may be taught several times where and when to potty.  As a Pasadena dog walker, most of my clients like their dogs to go potty on their walks.  For those of you overly concerned about potty training, consider asking the staff members at either the San Gabriel or Pasadena shelter to point out dogs that have been potty trained.  Also, most pet stores, such as Petco, will provide seminars on how to potty train your pet.

As with most things associated with your new pet, patience is the key.  Keep at it and you’ll have your pet potty trained in no time.  Please contact us if you need more information or other references.

A guide for San Gabriel Valley and Pasadena Pet owners preparing for air travel

A guide for San Gabriel Valley and Pasadena Pet owners preparing for air travel

As a Pasadena pet owner, I know first hand about the complicated process of flying your pet across the country.  My first experience was back in 2007 when we moved to NY from LA.  I had many misconceptions – the biggest one being that I should provide tranquilizers so my dog could rest easy – nothing could be further from the truth.  The ASPCA has provided a great guide on how to prepare your pet for air travel.

Most airlines will allow pets to ride in the cabin if they are under 20 lbs and can fit under the seat.  If your pet does not meet that criteria, they will have to ride in the cargo area.  In 2007, this was my only option and our dog was stuck in her crate for 10 hours!  Now, they have airlines dedicated to pets.  Check out www.petairways.com.

Don’t get me wrong, traveling across the country with your pet will never be as easy as going to the Pasadena dog park.  However, with enough planning it can be easier than you think.

How to properly secure your pet for a ride around town

How to properly secure your pet for a ride around town

Most of us love taking our pets for a ride around town.  However, while most of us buckle up before the ride, we don’t do so for our pets.  As a Pasadena pet sitter, I’ve seen it more often with our canine friends.  How many times have we seen dogs with their heads hanging out of windows on their way to the Pasadena dog park?

Here’s a great guide from the ASPCA on how to properly secure your pets.  So whether you’re just picking your pet up from the Pasadena shelter or heading out for that family road trip, you’ll be prepared to protect everyone in your family!

Hungry Bowl Food Drive donations dropped-off to San Gabriel Humane Society

For all you San Gabriel Valley and Pasadena pet owners that contributed to our Hungry Bowl Pet Food Drive, we wanted to let you know that we dropped off your donations to the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society today (here’s a video of the drop-off).  The staff wanted to express their thanks for your generous donations!  Let’s do it again next year.

On another note, most of you know that I’ve been a Pasadena dog walker for a little while now.  For those of you interested in dog walking or volunteering, please volunteer at any San Gabriel Valley or Pasadena shelter.  I know for a fact that the San Gabriel Humane Society could use some help!

Find a great San Gabriel Valley / Pasadena pet hospital or veterinarian

Find a great San Gabriel Valley / Pasadena pet hospital or veterinarian

The San Gabriel and Pasadena shelters will have provided your new pet with all its mandatory shots.  However, it is your responsibility to ensure that your pets are up-to-date on their shots (or holistic equivalent).  As a Pasadena dog walker and pet sitter, I can’t re-iterate  how important this is.

Do a quick Google search of “Pasadena pet hospitals or veterinarians” and you will be overwhelmed with the number of results.  I’d suggest you select several in your which have received good reviews from other pet owners and interview the vets.  After all, it is a relationship you will maintain for many years.  I have provided 2 links – one for cats and one for dogs to help you with your first vet visit.

Check out our website for links to some pet hospitals and vets in the area.  Good luck!
